My Winter Mountaineering Gear Checklist 🏔️❄️

Sep 26,2024 | Senbwl Sports

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from winter mountaineering, it’s that the right gear can make or break your experience. When you’re out there in freezing conditions, you need clothing that keeps you warm but doesn’t trap too much heat. After years of trial and error, I’ve finally found a layering system that works for me.

My Essential Gear for Cold Weather

  • Base Layer: The key is to start with a moisture-wicking layer that pulls sweat away from your skin. I’ve been using these base layers from Senbwl, and they’ve worked wonders. On long, steep climbs, I stay dry, which means I’m not freezing once I stop moving.
  • Mid-Layer for Insulation: I like to use a fleece pullover or something that traps heat but still allows for breathability. This keeps me warm but not too hot, which is crucial when you’re climbing.
  • Windproof Jacket: The wind can be brutal on the mountain, so a good jacket is non-negotiable. I always finish my layers with something windproof and water-resistant to keep the elements at bay.

Mountaineering in the winter is tough, but with the right gear, it’s absolutely worth it. If you’re preparing for a winter climb, I can’t recommend enough the importance of good base layers. Staying dry is the first step to staying warm, and Senbwl has been my go-to for that.
